Protein

Last week I asked a trainer at my gym what I could do to help my workouts and get ready for summer. He is in great shape and knows what he is doing.

He asked what my goals were and what I had been doing. I gave him my sheet with a program on it from back in February.

He looked at it and recommended a change and to focus more on lifting and eating right than obsessing over cardio.

We went to the back office to talk more and he mentioned some supplements to take that would help me while I lift and really get my ass in check for summer.

I went down to GNC to check out the supplements for myself and lucky for me there was someone there to talk to about the supplements. It's what I was looking for and she highly recommended it. I went home and shopped online and found a cheaper price than at the store and ordered.

The picture above is what I take to work with me to eat. I have been starting my day off with a MegaMen Sport Vitamin along with the supplements that go along with this new program. I also have a small portion of Wheat Chex and Egg Whites.

3 hours later a protein shake and a whole cucumber cut up. Then it's a Turkey Sandwhich on whole grain, another Protein shake after I lift at the gym and then two peices of grilled chicken to end the day.

I have so much more energy and feel focused beyond belief. Next week I will share day by day my gym routine and if I cheat on eating anything that is "not good" for me. I am being really serious about it and in hopes, I will look SLAMMIN for a wedding I have at the end of the month.

  3. JP,

About 98% of what you read and hear regarding the benefits of supplements is wrong. So wrong that the information does not even qualify as junk science.

Supplements are unregulated and may or may not contain advertised ingredients.

Some of the smaller manufactures have been caught using prohormones, which metabolize into anabolic steroids inside the body, in the beginning of a product launch. They do this because the people who try their product will see real gains in muscle mass, which creates a buzz about their product. Then they will stop including the prohormones for legal and liability purposes, but the products reputation has been created.

Be sure you don’t take in too much protein like many people do. The body cannot store unused protein, so it converts it into fatty acids or sugars. Some unused protein is excreted through the kidneys.

The best bet is to get your protein and vitamins from natural sources. Egg whites are a great source of protein, but mix up your protein source, not all proteins are the same. Remember when taking Vitamin E and C was all the rage, now researchers have figured out that the pill form of vitamin E and C can actually SHORTEN lifespan.

  5. Hi JP,
OneSource Men's says it comparable to GNC's MegaMen's and its much less expensive. I don't know how it compares to MegaMen's Sport.

Anyway, good luck on your program. I've lost just over 100 pounds a few years ago and no matter what I do, I can't seem to drop any more... so I'm looking for something different too.

    :-)
